The Pittsburgh Steelers have a decision to make this offseason about receiver Miles Boykin.
Boykin, 27, has progressed from an offensive threat to a special teams expert over the course of his career. Though he
hasn’t had much of an impact in the box score, with only five catches for 28 yards on offense over his two seasons in
Pittsburgh, Boykin does a lot of dirty work on special teams for the Steelers.
Re-signing Boykin for his third season in Pittsburgh would provide continuity to the special teams unit, which was
one of the best in football this season. It would also likely be inexpensive, given that he recently signed a one-year,
$1.08 million contract in 2023 — the veteran minimum for a player with 4-6 years of service.
Finally, if the Steelers want to return to the playoffs and make a splash, they can’t afford to make too many mistakes
with players outside of the defense. Keeping Boykin would provide the squad with a trustworthy player in the third
phase of the game.
