Former All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell, who spent five years with the Pittsburgh Steelers, announced on social
media this week that he is considering returning to the NFL after two years away, but only wants to play for one
team.
“I’m going to be honest with myself; I have to go out there and say, ‘I’m going to put my foot in the ground.'” Do I feel
it? Am I hurt? “Can I go out there and really play again?” Bell asked in his video, which was posted on ESPN. “And
bro, I’m telling you right now that when I go out there and train in March, and if I make the decision to return to play
in the NFL in April, I will be better than I ever was.
And I’ll only be back for that one team. You all recognize who it is. I do not have to say “no team.” “You all know who
it is.”
All signs point to Bell referring to the Steelers, for whom he accumulated 5,336 running yards, 35 touchdowns, and
three Pro Bowl selections throughout the first five years of his career. However, following a contract disagreement
that resulted in his missing the whole 2018 season, Bell moved on, spending time with four different clubs over the
next three years but never enjoying the same level of success as he had in Pittsburgh.
“I never apologized to the fans for sitting out, or leaving the Steelers,” Bell stated in a statement. “I’ve never
apologized. So, I’d like to apologize for leaving the best damn fans in the world. I should not have left. I apologize; I
should not have left. I sorry. It’s my fault. That is on me.”
He did not sign with a team for the 2022 or 2023 seasons and briefly dabbled in professional boxing, leading many
to believe he had retired, despite the lack of an official declaration.
