Sherrone Moore has had a difficult time since taking over for Jim Harbaugh, and at least one future Wolverine has
noticed.
Due to recent important departures at Michigan, Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte athlete Jaden Smith has requested
to be released from his National Letter of Intent.
It’s difficult to blame the kid. Smith is classified as an athletic due to his size (6-3, 201 pounds) and overall
adaptability. He’s long, swift, and capable of making open-field tackles. Given those characteristics, he could play
linebacker, safety, or even large cornerback at the next level. Unfortunately for Michigan, none of those sites now
provide much guidance.
Obviously, Smith’s prospective head coach has left with Harbaugh to join the NFL and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Chris Partridge, the linebackers coach, was fired midseason, and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter has also left for
the NFL in Los Angeles. Jay Harbaugh, cornerbacks coach Steve Clinkscale, and strength and conditioning coach
and key draw Ben Herbert have all left the team in recent days. In a nutshell, Smith no longer has to interact with
anyone from Michigan.
Smith was not the highest-rated recruit in Michigan’s class, but he is the type of player who has been nurtured at U-
M in previous years to the point where he is a star and an NFL prospect. He’s huge, swift, and very athletic. It’s a
huge disappointment that he’ll be playing elsewhere in college.
