The Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart have done an exceptional job of retaining former and current players for an
extended period of time since Smart’s arrival as head coach at Georgia. During SEC Media Days, Smart mentioned
that one of the Bulldogs program’s biggest strengths has been retention. Smart has reunited with former Georgia
teammates Mike Bobo and Will Muschamp. In a recent interview, one of their colleagues, UGA legend Hines Ward,
stated that he would return to coach the Bulldogs.
Ward was colleagues with Smart, Bobo, Muschamp, Champ Bailey, and many others in the mid-1990s, and they
ripped opponents apart in the silver britches. Ward recently spoke with J.C. Shelton of UGA Wire, during which
Shelton inquired about Ward’s interest in returning to coach the Bulldogs. His answer was forceful, as was his
performance for the Pittsburgh Steelers, which won him a trip to Canton, Ohio, and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
“I’m going to quit whatever I’m doing. I’m coming here. I’d love to come back. As I already stated, we took the oath a
long time ago.
When we committed to the University of Georgia, they were looking to keep the finest athletes in the
state. Back in 1994, we all claimed to be the greatest of the best high school football players, and we all promised to
change things. Certain players’ careers took off. others made it to the NFL, others were injured, and some did not;
this is essentially a dream career for everyone. Mike Bobo, growing up in Thomasville, to arrive in his home state to
support this team, to keep this university on the map.
