Greg Koch was selected in the second round of the 1977 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. He was unusually agile
for an NFL lineman and could play both tackle and guard.
Greg is a very down-to-earth and pleasant guy. In fact, after reading his responses to my questions, he ranks among
my favorite players of all time. I really feel like the responses helped not only myself, but anyone who reads this,
connect with him as a person.
That said, he had a nasty streak on the field, as do all good offensive linemen.
In 1982, he was named second-team All-Pro and was inducted into the Green Bay Packers and Arkansas Sports Halls
of Fame.
But enough with my babbling; you want to hear his responses, after all.
Most lineman would prefer to play in chilly conditions rather than hot. When it’s extremely chilly, you don’t sense it
until you start moving.
Sixty-eight was my number for my four years at Arkansas, so I was hopeful it would still be available when I was
picked by Green Bay. The Packers had a tremendous guard called Gale Gillingham, who had recently retired, so I got
lucky. I also wore it in Miami and Minneapolis. It was far more than a number.
