DeMeco Ryans, the Houston Texans’ first-year coach, was proud of his team’s accomplishments.
He transformed a side that had only three victories the previous season, propelling them to the postseason divisional
stage and clinching their first AFC South title in 2019.
However, the Texans and Ryans must work hard this offseason to “earn it again next year.”
According to Over The Cap, the Texans will have $69.9 million in cap space during the upcoming offseason. This
places them third in the league in terms of available finances, after only the Washington Commanders and
Tennessee Titans, according to PFF’s estimates.
Devin Singletary’s free agent signing from last year paid off handsomely. In four seasons with the Bills, he had 672
carries for 3,151 rushing yards and 16 rushing touchdowns, as well as 145 receptions for 971 yards and four additional
scores.
The Texans’ offense showed promise in 2023, but they will need to fix the running back issue this offseason.
Singletary, who signed a one-year contract, led the team with 898 running yards and four touchdowns against
mediocre run protection.
Re-signing Singletary could be a wise decision for Houston, but if not, who else is available? Could the Texans use
their top-five cap room to dig further into their pockets to sign a marquee running back?
