Last summer, the Whites signed the Wales international on a season-long loan with no option to buy, and he has
developed as one of the club’s most significant players under Daniel Farke.
The manager has already shown an interest in making the loan move permanent this summer, but speaking on the
Gold & Guest Talk podcast (23 February), journalist Gold believes Spurs will demand about £20 million to allow that
to happen so they can profit from the transaction.
“I think Joe Rodon’s going to go for a fair whack of money,” Gold went on to say. “I believe this is exactly what Spurs
want from these kind of loan arrangements.
“With Leeds having no say in the agreement, Rodon may be up there. He might be worth upwards of £15 million.
“Even if he is incredible and gets them promoted, you could be looking at £20 million.” Spurs may make a profit off
him.”
It will be a busy summer transfer season at Elland Road, with some big decisions to make about the playing roster whether Leeds is promoted or not.
If they do, Daniel Farke will need to assess the roster and see where he can improve to guarantee the team is not instantly relegated to the Championship, like his Norwich sides were.
However, if they do not, it will be difficult to keep the squad together, as players such as Rodon, Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, and Ethan Ampadu would undoubtedly garner interest from top-tier clubs.
If Rodon is willing to stay, the club must consider whether it is prudent to spend up to £20 million on a player while in the second tier, and if a central defender is the player to be targeted.
For the time being, all attention must be focused on ensuring Premier League football, but those in authority behind the scenes must be aware of these developments in order to move quickly if necessary.
