The Pittsburgh Steelers, looking to fill a void at cornerback, moved quickly to sign a big-name player.
The Steelers have signed Patrick Peterson, the league’s active interceptions leader, to a two-year, $14 million
contract, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Monday. Peterson’s contract contains a
$5.85 million guarantee.
Peterson, who turns 33 in July, spent the last two seasons with the Vikings, intercepting five passes in 2022 and
defending 15.
The Lions signed free agent Cam Sutton to a three-year, $33 million contract, adding to Pittsburgh’s cornerback
vacuum. Peterson will join veterans Levi Wallace, Arthur Maulet, and Ahkello Witherspoon in a redesigned Steelers
secondary. The team may also re-sign William Jackson III at a cheaper salary after releasing him this offseason for
cap relief.
Peterson joined former Steelers CB Bryant McFadden on the All Things Covered Podcast on Monday as the news of
his signing spread.
“Obviously, I love coach (Mike) Tomlin and what he brings to the table,” Peterson told McFadden. “And see how
consistent he is. How consistent is the defense? How consistent his team is, year after year. They’re constantly in a
position to win games, which is all anyone can ask for.
“Always been a big fan of how Mike T teams are always prepared to play a football game, even if they are out-
matched on paper.”
