The dead period is nearly past, so recruiting should pick up even more as we get closer to the spring game. This, of course, means that
recruiters should plan visits to spring practices in March and April.
Perhaps the Michigan Wolverines can bring some of the prospects included in today’s Recruiting Roundup to campus this spring.
Today, we’ll talk about a trio of defensive lineman that Michigan has been prioritizing, with two of them expressing optimism about
Michigan’s new defensive line coach.
When Mike Elston announced his departure from Michigan to become Jim Harbaugh’s defensive line coach with the Los Angeles
Chargers, 2025 four-star defensive player Jaylen Williams tweeted:
This, of course, refers to the three Crystal Ball forecasts that the Wolverines would land Williams. But now that head coach Sherrone
Moore has (unofficially) signed former Wisconsin defensive line coach Greg Scruggs for the same role, Williams can’t be happier.
“That’s crazy,” Williams told Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider ($). “I still think it’s a huge improvement,” says Scruggs. Coach
Scruggs and I have been really close since he began recruiting me early in my sophomore year, so that’s a major deal for Michigan.
As he mentioned, Scruggs was recruiting Williams while he was still with the Badgers. Scruggs is a known face to Williams, so
Michigan should be able to stay in this recruitment for the long run.
Next up is getting him back to Ann Arbor. He last came to town in November for The Game versus Ohio State, and he also attended
the Big House BBQ in July. According to 247Sports’ Allen Trieu ($), Williams already has official visits scheduled to Tennessee (June
15th) and Nebraska (June 22nd), so Michigan should aim for one of those early weekends in June to get him back on campus.
Williams, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 270 pounds, is ranked sixth in Illinois, 23rd on the defensive line, and 220th overall on
247Sports’ aggregate. He has additional offers from Auburn, Florida State, Florida, Oregon, Ohio State, USC, and others.
