The loss of Michael Philbin, the son of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, has served as yet another reminder that
there are things more important than athletics.
According to ESPN, the younger Philbin’s body was recovered from a Wisconsin river on Monday.
Philbin, 21, was one of six children and had been on a night out before the catastrophe. Unfortunate situations like this really put
things into perspective in terms of what is truly important in the great scheme of things.
Green Bay is ready to face the New York Giants in the Divisional Round, but that’s likely the last thing on most players’ minds as they
provide whatever assistance their beloved coach requires at this difficult time.
Philbin has helped transform the Packers offense into a juggernaut one that has been nearly unstoppable throughout the season. So,
when something far more important than slants and button hooks occurs, it’s no wonder that a family-oriented organization like
Green Bay has turned its attention to the Philbins.
There is no way to express what Philbin is going through right now. Lineman T.J. Lang probably put it best in the report, adding, “As
children, we all have to say goodbye to our parents, but a parent should never have to say goodbye to their child.”
