Rod Bramblett, an Auburn University sportscaster, and his wife died in a tragic vehicle accident this week.
Rod and Paula, 53 and 52 years old, died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-car incident in Alabama on Saturday night,
according to the Lee County Coroner’s Office.
Paramedics rushed to the collision around 6 p.m. local time on Saturday, and Rod was evacuated to UAB Hospital in Birmingham,
where he died of head injuries received in the incident.
Meanwhile, Paula died in the emergency room of East Alabama Medical Center after suffering severe injuries. The couple have two
children, Shelby and Joshua, the former of whom is an Auburn student.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee hit the couple’s Highlander from behind. The driver’s name
has not been revealed, and the accident investigation is underway.
Auburn’s president, Steven Leath, tweeted after learning of the couple’s death.
“Our hearts are full of grief,” Leath stated. “Janet and I extend our condolences and support to the family of Rod and Paula Bramblett.
“The Auburn family adores you!”
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey also tweeted on the awful deaths, saying, “The Auburn family lost two very special members last night.”
Rod and Paula Bramblett will never be forgotten, and Rod’s voice will go on for centuries. I extend my heartfelt condolences and
prayers to the Bramblett family during this terrible time.”
