Roy Hodgson has departed Crystal Palace after a 10-month second spell in charge. The Eagles made the announcement Monday
afternoon.
Palace are presently 15th in the Premier League table, five points above the relegation zone. Last Friday, Hodgson took command of
his 200th match as Palace manager, but Chelsea defeated them 3-1 at Selhurst Park.
Hodgson became ill during training last week, but Palace have verified that he is out of the hospital and doing well, with Paddy
McCarthy and Ray Lewington poised to take command of today’s game against Everton.
“This club is very special and means so much to me and has played a big part in my footballing life,” he added. “I have thoroughly
loved my six seasons here since it has provided me with the opportunity to work with world-class players and staff while doing what I
enjoy every day.
“However, given recent circumstances, I believe it is prudent for the club to plan ahead, so I have decided to step aside so that the club
may move on with their plans for a new manager, which are scheduled for this summer.
“I’d want to thank Steve Parish and his American partners for their support, as well as my coaching staff and backstage crew, who have
been really helpful. A special thank you to my long-time friend and assistant, Ray Lewington; coaches Dean Kiely and Paddy
McCarthy; and the outstanding sports science, video analysis, and medical teams.
“My thanks and respect also go to the current squad of players, who have been a pleasure to work with and are a credit to both the club
and themselves.” I am confident that our fans will continue to support the squad throughout the balance of the season and beyond.
“I am confident that the season will finish well and I wish the team every success in the weeks, months and seasons to come.”
