Last Thursday, the Jets consummated a spectacular trade with the Packers to acquire the four-time MVP. Rodgers, along with the 15th

overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and a fifth-round pick, was traded to New York in exchange for the 13th overall pick in 2023, a

2023 second-round pick (no.42), a sixth-round pick (no.207), and a conditional second-round pick.

Since reports surfaced linking Rodgers to a trade to the Jets, a number of former Packers have left Wisconsin for the bright lights of

New York. Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, the future Hall of Famer’s receivers, joined the Jets, as did offensive tackle Billy Turner and

backup quarterback Tim Boyle.

The 38-year-old does not put up big numbers, but he is an excellent run and pass blocker. According to Justis Mosqueda of Acme

Packing Company, Lewis is more interested in returning to the Packers than reuniting with Rodgers in a new environment.

However, the tax rates in New York and New Jersey are substantially higher than those in Wisconsin, so it is a corporate decision

rather than a personal one. Lewis has also been connected with a move to the Las Vegas Raiders, who play in Nevada, which does not

have an income tax.

If Lewis signs and plays for a team this season, he will set the record for the most seasons played by a tight end since being drafted in

the first round by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006. He signed with the Packers before the 2018 season.

Lewis had a productive relationship with Rodgers, whose 18-year career in Green Bay ended last week. The Packers signaled a

readiness to move on from the veteran quarterback this offseason and focus on young signal-caller Jordan Love, which opened the

door for the Jets.
