The Pittsburgh Steelers are starting their scouting at the 2024 NFL Combine, but before they meet with players and
address their draft board, the majority of the league’s general managers and head coaches took the floor to discuss
the present state of their teams.
While Steelers general manager Omar Khan did not speak because of a tragic occurrence in his family, numerous
Pittsburgh players were discussed by others in the NFL. One member that received a lot of acclaim was new offensive
coordinator Arthur Smith, who is still popular among his old teammates.
When questioned about Smith and his new position with the Steelers, Atlanta Falcons general manager Terry
Fontenot only had great things to say about Pittsburgh’s new play-caller.
“Yeah, love Arthur Smith and we spent three years together and we were like brothers and we had a really
collaborative relationship,” Fontenot said. “We love Arthur and his family, and we are rooting for him to move to
Pittsburgh. And look, if you spend any time with Arthur, you’ll notice right away that he’s a clever guy who is only
concerned with improving the football team. And so, being with Raheem and the relationship he has with Mike
Tomlin, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with coach Tomlin in recent weeks, but I know they’re going to have a
really fantastic relationship and will do everything they can to make that team as good as possible.”
When it comes to Smith’s firing in Atlanta, many focus on the quarterback position, questioning whether Smith will
be able to develop a passer like Kenny Pickett. But the Falcons’ new coach, Raheem Morris, had some brutally honest
truths to inform the fans and media.
“If we had better quarterback play, I might not be standing here,” Morris stated during his press conference.
The optimism surrounding Smith is rising, and what the Steelers’ new offensive coordinator may bring to this team
and its youthful offense is beginning to pique the interest of most fans – and his plaudits at the NFL Combine should
only add to that excitement.
