The Indianapolis Colts have finished their interview with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson for their
head coaching position, the team said Friday.
With Johnson’s interview now under wraps, the Colts have held five head coach interviews. Prior to Johnson, the
Colts interviewed special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone (January 11), Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator
Eric Bieniemy (January 12), Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero (January 12), and Los Angeles Rams
defensive coordinator Raheem Morris (January 13).
Our tracker will provide you with the most recent updates on the head coaching hunt.
Johnson, 36, is one of the league’s younger prospects undergoing interviews. He has worked as an assistant for tight
ends and wide receivers in a variety of capacities. He has extensive experience working with Dan Campbell, having
worked with the Miami Dolphins from 2012 to 2015 and the Detroit Lions from 2021 until the present.
Under Johnson, the Lions had probably a top-five offense in 2022, as he helped lead one of the most explosive
groups in the NFL.
It is unclear whether the Colts will want another inexperienced head coach to take over after Jeff Saturday’s tragedy,
but Johnson has a lot of potential based on what he has shown with the Lions.
General manager Chris Ballard will lead the head coaching search, but the final selection will be made by owner Jim
Irsay.
