The Washington Commanders continue to bolster their offensive line.
According to NFL source Ari Meirov, the Commanders will sign right tackle Andrew Wylie to a three-year, $24
million contract.
Wylie signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017 and played the first six seasons of his career there. Wylie appeared
in 59 games for Kansas City. This previous season was the first time he began the entire year.
Wylie’s choice to sign with the Commanders reunites him with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, with whom he
has worked since 2018.
The addition of Wylie strengthens an offensive line that allowed 48 sacks in 2022, the seventh-most in the NFL.
Along with Wylie, the Commanders signed New York Giants offensive tackle Nick Gates to a three-year contract.
If Washington decides to maintain Wylie at right tackle, Sam Cosmi might be shifted to the interior of the offensive
line.
This past season, the Chiefs’ offensive line allowed only 26 sacks, ranking third in the NFL and lowest in the AFC.
Offensively, the Chiefs led in points per game and passing yards per game. The additions of Wylie, Gates, and
Bieniemy are expected to improve Washington’s offense, which finished in the bottom half of the league in 2022.
