On Wednesday, the Lions signed four players: defensive end Otto Brewer III (Gulf Shores, Alabama), long snapper
Will Davidson (Marietta, Georgia), offensive lineman Isaiah Hayes (Clearwater, Florida), and quarterback Jamarcus
Pittman (McComb, Mississippi).
Scelfo also announced the signing of midyear transfer defensive backs Shakespeare Louis (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
and Nick Turner (Slidell, Louisiana). Both are currently enrolled and plan to participate in spring practice.
The latest arrivals join 21 December signees, giving the Lions 27 newcomers heading into the 2024 season.
“We put pieces in places where we thought we had some holes,” Scelfo explained. “We have some guys are going to
be ready to contribute immediately and others who are going to fill some gaps we’ll have when we graduate our next
senior class after the 2024 season.”
Southeastern’s spring practice will continue from February 20 to March 23. The Lions begin their 12-game 2024
campaign at Tulane.
Scelfo and his Lions staff improved both sides of the ball. The new class contains fifteen defensive players and eight
offensive recruits.
“We’re very excited about this signing class,” Scelfo added. “We are delighted with the diversity of the roles we were
able to fill. This class has a lot of good pupils. We sought to improve our team’s intelligence on the field, and we were
successful across the board.
“We’re always looking to improve our team’s speed,” Scelfo said. “We addressed that with upgrades to the receiver
and secondary positions. With a few exceptions, we didn’t have many explosive playmakers who were scoring threats
every time they touched the ball, and we signed some players today who can fill that void going forward.”
Throughout his stint with the Lions, Scelfo has emphasized the significance of recruiting Louisiana first. 15 of
Wednesday’s signees are from the Pelican State.
“Our best players each year are coming from a close proximity to our campus,” he remarked. “We have so many
outstanding players in this area, and we have wonderful relationships with the high schools,
Defensive end Evan Aubrey, defensive end Lamar Brown, running back Taboris (TJ) Charles, cornerback Levi
Darensbourg, defensive tackle Louis Gendron, offensive lineman Zane Hooper, wide receiver D’Khai Joseph,
quarterback Tanner Murray, linebacker Joe Sniffin, and defensive back BJ Wagner will all be on campus for the start
of spring practice and get a head start on preparations for the 2024 season.
Spring practice at Southeastern begins on February 19 and runs through March 23. The Lions will debut the 2024
season on August 31 at Tulane.
