After the Green Bay Packers’ season-ending loss to their division foe Detroit Lions last night, head coach Matt LaFleur vented his
frustration with one of his best players.
With less than eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the Packers leading, all their defense needed to do was prevent the Lions
from scoring a score. If everything had gone as planned, they’d most likely have won the game and advanced to the playoffs.
However, with the Lions moving down the field, an injury timeout was called when former Packers running back Jamaal Williams
collapsed after a hit, prompting medical personnel to rush onto the field.
And, for some strange reason, Packers rookie Quay Walker opted to push the Lions medical attendant, earning the Packers a 15-yard
penalty and ejecting the excellent linebacker from the game.
Three plays later, Williams scored a touchdown to put the Lions ahead with only minutes remaining, a lead the Packers were unable to
reclaim after Aaron Rodgers threw an interception, ending their playoff aspirations. Their blow meant that the Seattle Seahawks took the
final position.
Packers head coach LaFleur expressed his displeasure with Walker following the game. He stated, “I have a far better expectation of our
guys than to do anything ridiculous like that. We had a person ejected twice. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like that in my career,
and we need to be lot stronger mentally.
“Anytime our players commit personal fouls, I take it very personally because I believe it is a reflection of myself and the standards that
we set for these players.” And we must improve and learn from our mistakes because they are unacceptable.”
