Slugger Justin Turner of the Boston Red Sox has formally declined the team’s player option for the 2024 season.
This action was clearly predicted. Turner declined a player option for the 2024 season, but the Red Sox signed him to
a two-year contract worth more than $21 million ahead of the 2023 season.
“Corey Kluber, a right-handed pitcher, has had his 2024 club option declined by the Red Sox,” the organization
announced in a statement. “Justin Turner today declined his 2024 player option.”
Turner would have earned just over $13 million the next season if he had accepted the offer. Following a spectacular
2023 season in which he was likely Boston’s best hitter for the most of the season, Turner is anticipated to sign a
multi-year contract this summer and maybe receive a raise.
Turner made a significant influence on the Red Sox, and it is unclear where he will finish up, although there is a
potential he will sign a new contract with them next season. Turner and Boston are reportedly interested in
reuniting. This would result in
Following his career-high 96 runs scored and 23 home runs, it seemed logical to put him back in the lineup. Turner
had success with the squad, and Boston requires another right-handed hitter in the lineup.
Turner is unlikely to return to the Red Sox for more than a two-year contract, even if they sign him back. When the
2024 campaign begins, he will be 39 years old. Turner might be an excellent candidate to be re-added to the squad if
the Red Sox are unable to sign Los Angeles Angels prodigy Shohei Ohtani.
Turner’s objectives will become clearer in the not-too-distant future, when free agency begins.
