The Washington Commanders are in the midst of a rebuild, but coach Anthony Lynn left the Super Bowl-contending
San Francisco 49ers to join the team.
Many people were perplexed as to why Lynn went from being an assistant head coach and running backs coach on
the NFL’s No. 2 team to just being the run game coordinator and running backs coach on a team with the league’s
second-worst record in 2023, but he has now explained why.
“I love the leadership here; that’s what brought me here, Dan Quinn and Adam Peters and even the president Jason
Wright,” Lynn told Scott Abraham at the time.
Quinn and Lynn have both previously been head coaches in the NFL, but after a combined six seasons of reduced
NFL coaching duties, the two are now hoping to show that they can turn around the struggling Commanders.
“(Years ago, our agent) connected us together, and we’ve just been friends ever since,” she said. “We always planned
to coach together one day. “Now we’re here.”
Lynn praised new Washington general manager Adam Peters from their time together in San Francisco and
expressed excitement to work with him again, stating that the right people are in the building.
“I believe we are not as far away as some believe, and with strong leadership, ownership, and organizational
stability… Lynn remarked, “I just thought it was an opportunity to go and be a part of something special.”
