At least 21 people were injured and one person murdered during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl triumph parade, according to police, and three people have been arrested.
According to Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves, a private quarrel between multiple parties that resulted in gunshots appears to have been the cause of the mass shooting that occurred on Tuesday at a celebration for the city’s winning Super Bowl squad.
A local radio DJ was murdered in the incident, and at least 22 people—11 of them children—were injured. The police chief stated that the victims ranged in age from eight to 47.
Graves further stated that three individuals, two of whom were minors, had been taken into custody in relation to the incident, which happened as the Kansas City Chiefs celebration was coming to an end close to Union Station.
Graves had earlier reported the recovery of guns. Trey Filter, an eyewitness, stated he thought an AK-47 assault rifle was one of the weapons used. Authorities have not yet disclosed information on people who were taken into custody or a potential reason, stating that they are still trying to piece together what transpired.
Mike Parson, the Republican governor of Missouri, said on Thursday that the shooting was the result of “a bunch of criminals, thugs.” Parson stated on KCMO radio that “what happened with those thugs yesterday is not who we are in Missouri.” “And we’re not, and it’s unfortunate that they took center stage during yesterday’s event, which could have been a very positive development.”
Wichita native Filter, a Chiefs supporter, ran and assaulted one of the alleged gunman who seemed to be leaving the area. The man was pushed down by Filter, and then another man arrived to assist him in pinning the culprit.
