The British driver exercised a release provision in his Mercedes contract, and Ferrari revealed on Thursday evening
that the seven-time world champion will join them on a “multi-year” deal.

Mercedes personnel in Brackley were apprised of the news earlier on Thursday afternoon, prior to the formal release
from the team.
Charles Leclerc signed a new contract with Ferrari last week and will be Hamilton’s teammate at Ferrari starting next
year.
The seven-time world champion is the most successful driver in F1 history with 103 wins and 104 pole positions.
Michael Schumacher is the only other driver with seven world titles.
Hamilton, who has not won a race since December 2021, joined Mercedes in 2013 from McLaren and has won six
world titles with the team.
He was linked to Ferrari this year, but he and Mercedes teammate George Russell signed a new two-year contract
last summer that would keep them there until the end of 2025.

The 2024 Formula One season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix on February 29 and March 2 – live on Sky
Sports F1.
“It’s very difficult to finish a sporting career. Lionel Messi may have got the World Cup to cap it off, but how difficult
is it to leave the stage after such a spectacular career at the top?
“What does Lewis Hamilton do to cap off this masterpiece?” Could he win the eighth world championship in a few
years in red, following in Michael Schumacher’s footsteps? Schumacher has won five of his seven races with Ferrari,
so that would truly cap it off.”
