At the end of 2017 season, Ricciardo left McLaren to make room for compatriot Oscar Piastri, who will compete with
Lando Norris in 2023. The eight-time Grand Prix winner, who won a one-two for McLaren at Monza in 2021, will
rejoin Red Bull to help with testing, simulator work, and commercial activities.
“The smile says it all,” he explained. “I’m really delighted to be returning to Oracle Red Bull Racing as their third
driver in 2023. I already have many good memories of my stay here, but I’m especially grateful for the kind greeting
from Christian [Horner], Dr [Helmut] Marko, and the rest of the staff.
“For me, the possibility to contribute to and be surrounded by the best team in Formula One is extremely enticing, as
is the opportunity to recharge and concentrate. I can’t wait to join the team and help with simulator work, testing,
and commercial operations. “Let us go!”
The Australian made his HRT debut in 2011, then joined Red Bull’s feeder squad Toro Rosso the following year
before being promoted to Red Bull in 2014. He teamed up with Sebastian Vettel, Daniil Kvyat, and Max Verstappen.
Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal, added: “It’s amazing to welcome Daniel back into the Red Bull family.
He has amazing talent and a fantastic personality; I’m sure the entire factory is thrilled to welcome him home.
“In his role as test and third driver, Daniel will allow us to diversify by assisting in the development of the car and
providing the team with his experience and knowledge of what it takes to achieve in Formula One. We’re excited to
be working with Daniel again and look forward to what he’ll bring to the team in 2023.”
