It appears that the Green Bay Packers will have one more coaching opening to fill this offseason. In an uncertain
offseason, the squad must select a new quality control coach for the 2023 season.
On Monday, ESPN college football analyst Pete Thamel announced that Micheal Spurlock will leave the Green Bay
Packers to become the wide receivers coach at Western Kentucky University. Spurlock played his one and only
season for the Green Bay Packers in 2022. He was the team’s special teams quality control coach this past season.
Spurlock, coordinator Rich Bisaccia, and assistant special teams coach Byron Storer were also new appointments
last season. The three worked together to turn around the team’s special teams unit, which had previously been
ranked as one of the worst in the NFL. Last fall, the Packers made a tremendous improvement under new
leadership, finishing around the league average in most aggregate studies.
Spurlock, a former NFL wide receiver, spent eight years in the league. He spent time with eight different teams.
His longest stint was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had him on their roster for four seasons from 2007 to
2011. Over the course of his career, he gained the majority of his experience on kickoff and punt returns, scoring
five touchdowns altogether. He began his professional career after playing quarterback for Ole Miss, where he
started eight games his final year in 2005.
