The Mexican driver, who won the Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, has now signed with the team until the conclusion
of the 2024 season.
Perez, 32, is presently third in the drivers’ world championship standings, having finished fourth last year.
“For me, this has been an incredible week, winning the Monaco Grand Prix is a dream for any driver and then to
follow that with announcing I will continue with the team until 2024 just makes me extremely happy,” Perez stated
in a press release.
“I am really delighted to be a member of this team, and I feel just at home here. We’re working well together, and my
friendship with Max (Verstappen), both on and off the track, is clearly helping to propel us forward.
“We have built tremendous momentum as a team and this season is showing that, I am excited to see where that can
take us all in the future.”
Red Bull Racing team manager Christian Horner stated, “Time and again, he [Perez] has proven himself to be not
only a magnificent team player, but as his level of comfort has grown, he has become a real force to be reckoned with
at the sharp end of the grid.”
“For us, maintaining his pace, race craft, and experience was a no-brainer, and we are thrilled that Checo will
continue to race for the team until 2024. In collaboration with Max, we feel we have a driver pairing capable of
bringing us the biggest trophies in F1.”
Max Verstappen’s father, former racing driver Jos Verstappen, criticized Red Bull’s tactics in Monaco following his
son’s third place finish.
In a blog published on the Verstappen website, he stated: “Red Bull accomplished a good result, but had little
involvement in getting Max to the front.
“That he finished third was due to Ferrari’s mistake at Charles Leclerc’s second stop.
“The planned tactic did not benefit the championship leader, Max.
“It went fully in Checo’s favour. That disappointed me, and I would have preferred a different outcome for the
championship leader.”
