With back-to-back fourth-quarter sacks against rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Nick Bosa has tied his 2019
sack total of nine in just ten games.
Bosa has had a good start to the year after returning from a season-ending ACL tear in Week 2 of the 2020 season.
Bosa had 31 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a pass defensed heading into Sunday’s game, in addition to his eight
sacks, which ranked eighth in the NFL and third in the NFC.
His 19 quarterback hits in 2021 ranked for seventh in the NFL this season, while his 13 tackles for loss matched for
the most.
During his nine-sack year, Bosa was voted Defensive Rookie of the Year, propelling him to a Super Bowl berth. This
time around, Bosa makes a compelling argument for inclusion in Comeback Player of the Year conversations. It’s
worth noting that the last 49ers player to win Comeback Player of the Year honors was running back Garrison Hearst
in 2001.
“Nick has been outstanding,” veteran left tackle Trent Williams stated in August. I’m not sure how he became
stronger, but he did. Very few people recover from a catastrophic injury and are better than when they left. I played
Nick before he left and again when he returned, and he has improved.”
If Bosa keeps up his present pace, he will have more than 17 sacks this season. Aldon Smith currently holds the
franchise record for most sacks in a single season, with 19.5. If Bosa maintains his current level, Smith’s record may
be within reach for the former first overall choice.
