Teams lining up to interview Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn will have to wait until Friday
to make their pitch.
Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday that Johnson and Glenn are in the process of scheduling interviews with
their numerous suitors, and that they will try to cram in as many interviews as possible Friday after practice or
Saturday between walk-through and night meetings.
Johnson, in his second season as Lions offensive coordinator, has received interview requests from five teams: the
Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, and Washington Commanders.
Glenn, in his third season as Lions defensive coordinator, has received inquiries from all of the teams save the
Chargers.
The Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders both have available positions and are in the process of formalizing
interview requests.
The Lions will face the winner of Monday night’s Philadelphia Eagles-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game at 3 p.m. on
Sunday in the divisional round of the playoffs, with a chance to move to the NFC title game for the second time in the
Super Bowl era.
“Those are worthy candidates and I think they’re, both of them should be at the top of everybody’s list,” Campbell
went on to say. “But we’re in one of those rare years where there are so many positions available, which is why they
all want to meet with them, and they should. But that puts a strain on them and on us, but they’ll do their best with
it, make the most of it, as they should, and then be ready for us to prepare for the next game.
Beginning Tuesday, assistant coaches from clubs that competed in the wild-card round of the playoffs can do virtual
interviews for head coaching vacancies. Johnson and Glenn, on the other hand, will be busy preparing games early in
the week.
