Neal appeared in nine games for the Steelers in 2023, including eight starts. In a win over Green Bay on Nov. 12, he
sustained a rib injury when he was hit at the end of a 32-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.
On November 18, the team placed Neal on the injured reserve list.
Last March, the Steelers signed Neal, 28, to a two-year, $4.25 million contract. He recorded 50 tackles, a fumble
recovery, and an interception for Pittsburgh. With Neal’s departure, the two most experienced safety still on the
roster are perennial Pro Bowler Minkah Fitzpatrick and veteran Damontae Kazee, with free agency beginning next
week.
In an effort to cut costs, the Denver Broncos are releasing safety Justin Simmons. It’s the first domino to fall in the
Russell Wilson controversy.
The Broncos stated earlier this week that they will release their quarterback next week. This move leaves them with a
record $85 million in dead cap charges, necessitating additional painful roster cutbacks.
Simmons leads the league with 30 interceptions in eight seasons in Denver, and he has been named a second-team
All-Pro four times in the last five years.
Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has signed a two-year contract with the Buffalo Bills to return as Josh Allen’s backup.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft returns to the Bills after struggling to reestablish himself as a starter with the
Pittsburgh Steelers over two rough seasons. Trubisky was released by Pittsburgh last month after going 2-5 in 12
total outings.
The Bills continue to believe in Trubisky, who spent the 2021 season in Buffalo and, at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, has
the size and mobility to run Allen’s offensive scheme.
