The Boston Celtics are in mourning at the passing of a cherished teammate.
Heather Walker, the Celtics’ vice president of public relations, died of a rare brain cancer on Wednesday, the NBA team confirmed. She was 52.
Since she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called glioblastoma in July 2021, Walker, along with her friends and family, worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funding to benefit survivors of the rare disease.
On the Move4Heather fundraising website on Wednesday, Walker’s family wrote, “These posts have never been easy, and this will be the hardest ever.”
The statement went on, “Heather has let go and passed this morning at 5:43am.” She can now finally relax because she isn’t struggling anymore. She was undoubtedly greeted with open arms because there have been so many people who have gone before her. I want to say so much, but at this moment I simply cannot. It hurts too much. Heather, you have my undying love. The girls as well. It’s now your turn to relax and find serenity.”
Walker was described as “a soundlessly charismatic, giving, and selfless soul” by the Celtics in a statement, and they added her “energy, joy, and laughter” will be deeply missed.
