Charles Leclerc, Sainz’s teammate, signed a new contract with Ferrari last week, the company announced. But Sainz
has stated he will depart Maranello at the conclusion of 2024, his fourth year driving for Ferrari alongside Leclerc,
following news that Lewis Hamilton will switch from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025.
Sainz promised to offer Ferrari “my absolute best” in a social media message for his last season with the team.
“After today’s announcement, Scuderia Ferrari and I are going to separate ways at the end of 2024,” Sainz declared.
“Like always, I will give the Team and the Tifosi worldwide my all during this long season that still lies ahead of us.”
Where Sainz would race after this season “will be announced in due course,” according to him.
After switching teams from McLaren to the squad in 2021, the 29-year-old defeated Leclerc in the title during their
first year together. The following season, Sainz won his first grand prix and earned his first career pole at the British
Grand Prix at Silverstone. He was the first driver not sponsored by Red Bull to win a grand prix the previous season,
having triumphed in Singapore to break Red Bull’s all-time winning streak.
Former Red Bull youngster Sainz and Max Verstappen joined the Formula 1 field at Toro Roso in 2015. He stayed
with the squad until late in the 2017 season, when he left to take Jolyon Palmer’s spot at Renault. Sainz raced with
Lando Norris for two years at McLaren after spending a complete season with Renault in 2018. Two years later, he
joined Ferrari.
