Players from Leeds United are no longer facing a two-game suspension after Sheffield Wednesday’s 10-yellow card
threshold was reached.
Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Gnonto’s goals helped Leeds defeat Yorkshire rivals Wednesday 2-0 at Hillsborough
on Friday night in their 37th Championship match. The Whites are now second in the table after winning their 11th
game in a 12-game league streak without a loss.
Since the beginning of the year, Daniel Farke’s team has kept an amazing nine clean sheets, and the defensive duo of
Ampadu and Rodon has shown to be nearly unbeatable. Suspension appeared to be the sole danger to their
unbreakable alliance, but both have avoided the possibility of a two-game suspension.
In the Championship, Ampadu presently has eight yellow cards, while Rodon has seven. But both won’t have to
worry anymore because Leeds will surpass the 37-game mark on Friday.
As a result, Leeds will not lose a player to suspension as a result of receiving too many yellow cards during the
Championship season. Rodon was sent off against Hull City, therefore he was not present for the 3-0 victory against
Watford at home in September.
With only 55 yellow cards in 36 games, Leeds is statistically the most disciplined team in the Championship and has
been for the majority of the season. When questioned about the situation in December, Farke emphasized his wish to
avoid losing players needlessly.
“I don’t want any unnecessary sending offs or yellow cards or booking or suspensions because it does not make your
life easier,” he stated. We frequently discuss how, at this level, two or three percent may make all the difference. If
you have to play, for instance, after being sent off, that can be a serious, serious issue. We so frequently discuss our
desire to maintain discipline and avoid working with needless infractions and expenses.”
