The NHL’s Department of Player Safety on Wednesday penalized Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand for six
games for his self-admitted inappropriate actions toward Tristan Jarry. Marchand first high-sticked the Penguins
goalie in the mask after punching him in the head, but the stick infraction was more of a “boop” than a bop.
Marchand’s ban is being appealed, the NHLPA said on Friday.
Was it foolish? Naturally, it was foolish,” Marchand remarked, as reported by Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic. “I don’t dispute that. I should not have done anything at all. But deserving of a suspension? Not in my opinion.
Marchand earned himself a new, terrible spot in NHL history with his most recent punishment. Marchand has received eight individual bans in NHL history, surpassing Chris Pronger’s seven, according to the Cam and Strick podcast.
Marchand will have missed nearly $1.4 million in compensation over his 13-year NHL career and been suspended for a total of 28 games if the most recent punishment is upheld.
