Since joining Michael Carrick’s team on loan until the end of the season, Ayling, 32, has made an impression at Boro,
starting each of the team’s 10 league games. His last two appearances saw him dish out assists.
After defeating Norwich and QPR on Saturday, Boro has resumed their winning ways in the previous two games,
maintaining a slim chance of making the playoffs. They would most likely need to prevail in the final nine games.
It happens after Ayling had not played in a league game since November 3 at Leeds, when he moved to Boro. Archie
Gray’s presence prevented him from joining the group and persuaded Ayling that he had to go.
Naturally, Ayling’s time at Leeds is up because his contract at Elland Road expires in June. There is very little
likelihood of a new agreement. Ayling stated his reasons for leaving in an interview with BBC Radio Teesside.
I’m overjoyed to be performing again. I was at a club where there is a young right-back who is performing
wonderfully, so it’s understandable that I was a little disappointed at not getting more playing time.
“I was not receiving the minutes that I desired. I adore playing football on a Saturday afternoon, and at my age, I
don’t want to sit around and do nothing. He remarked, “I’m so happy a big club like Boro came in and got me.”
It was the appropriate course of action. It was inevitable that Ayling would depart this summer because it was
unlikely that his contract, along with Liam Cooper’s and Stuart Dallas’, would be extended. That is still the situation,
even at Boro.
The defender is having fun with the game once more, and Oli McBurnie and Sam Greenwood both praised him for
his “excellent” performance over the weekend. He most likely signs a permanent contract with Boro.
