Even though Ferrari was working on a completely new vehicle for 2024, they ultimately chose to stick with a pull-rod
suspension.
Following a difficult year in which it was unable to match Red Bull’s RB19, Ferrari undertook significant
modifications to its SF-24 car over the winter break. Except for client team Haas, no other team on the grid makes
use of the pull-rod suspension configuration, which is one important feature of the new car that hasn’t changed.
Mercedes’ W14 car had a pull-rod rear suspension setup last season. But this year, during the winter break, the
Brackley team decided to switch to a push-rod layout, joining the ranks of other F1 teams like Aston Martin, Red
Bull, Alpine, Sauber, McLaren, and Williams.
The Maranello team stuck with the pull-rod suspension even though it was inspired by Red Bull’s championship
candidate for the SF-24, and there are specific reasons for that choice.
The team studied the push-rod idea for several years, but according to Ferrari technical director Enrico Cardile, the
team found that its modified pull-rod design performed better in the aero. An upgraded suspension system is
installed inside the gearbox for the current season. In a media appearance, he disclosed:
Cardile continued, “The team’s innovation with regard to the rear suspension on the 2024 car is noteworthy.”
