In their Massachusetts home on Friday, the son and 8-year-old grandson of a former Boston Red Sox star were
discovered dead in what appeared to be a murder-suicide. Local officials said that the boy’s mother had been
reported missing for over four years.
According to a news release from the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, police discovered the bodies of George
Scott III and his son, Dante Hazard, at their New Bedford home on Friday morning after a relative was unable to get
in touch with Scott and requested that authorities do a welfare check.
A spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office named Gregg Miliote claims that Scott is the son of
former Boston Red Sox player George “Boomer” Scott.
According to the MLB, Scott was a first baseman for the Red Sox from 1966 to 1971 and again from 1977 to 1979.
During his time with the organization, he won three of his eight career Gold Glove Awards. At age 69, he passed away
in 2013.
Only a few weeks had passed since a search warrant for Dante’s mother, who is still missing, was executed at the
same residence, leading to the finding of his son and grandchild.
The district attorney’s office claims that Scott “appears to have killed the boy with a sharp object before taking his
own life.” According to the report, officials are awaiting additional information regarding the deaths from the
medical examiner’s office.
A list of missing persons cases on the district attorney’s website indicates that Lisa Hazard, Dante’s mother, has not
been seen in over four years. Scott is regarded as a “person of interest” in relation to her disappearance, the office
stated in the news release.
Hazard, who was 28 years old at the time, vanished from Scott’s house in March 2019. The district attorney’s office
stated that she was scheduled to depart in order to attend a drug recovery facility. Since then, no one has seen her.
According to the announcement, last month, search warrants were executed at Scott’s home by detectives looking
into her disappearance. This is the same home where Scott and his kid were discovered dead. According to the
announcement, the court has sealed the search warrant and her missing persons case is still pending.
