unexpected announcement: DeMarcus Covington and his wife are expecting a child…

After having their fourth child in June, Lawrence and Andrea Guy are as aware of this as anyone, but they also

understand that not all women are as fortunate to have the kind of support network they do.

Report: DeMarcus Covington to be Named Patriots Next Defensive Coordinator

In an effort to assist local single mothers, the New England Patriots defensive lineman and his spouse are hosting the

third-annual Lawrence Guy Family Foundation Charity Baby Shower Bash at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday.

They’re stepping it up a notch and bringing an identical event to Miami later this season—the city that originally

inspired the idea—after realizing the impact they’ve made.

Tuesday, Andrea stated, “It came from a moment of love after we had our daughter.”

We came across a mother who was in a difficult predicament and had a difficult birthing experience. As a mother of

four, I know what it’s like to have kids and how it takes a village, so doing this for you guys truly lit a fire under my

heart.”

When issues arose with their third child, Andrea momentarily lodged in a Miami hospital room with another woman

facing a same situation. Andrea heard the mom, who was separated by a curtain, beg for assistance from friends and

family in getting her newborn intubated in the NICU.

When no one else showed up to assist this stranger, Andrea and Lawrence did so in collaboration with the social

worker at the hospital. The Guy family wanted to make sure this complete stranger had everything she would need

for her son’s first year of life, even though all she asked for was diapers.

“We bought all those essentials for her and made sure she had everything she needed because we wanted to support

her,” said Lawrence.

“We didn’t tell her who we were, but by helping that one new mom out, we realized there are people up here who

don’t have help.”

The result was the creation of the baby shower, which seems to have grown larger and better each year.

The goal of Tuesday’s event was to reduce the financial burden of fifty disadvantaged expectant moms from the

Boston area by providing them with presents, pampering, lunch, and activities.
