Jerry Mack, the coach of Tennessee’s running backs, left for the professional ranks earlier this week. After doing
fantastic work with his group, Mack chose the same role with the Jacksonville Jaguars, which was a major loss for
the Vols coaching staff. Brian Jean-Mary, the linebackers coach at Tennessee, has now been hired by Michigan for
the same position.
According to Football Scoop, Jean-Mary and the Wolverines have started talking about a possible reunion in Ann
Arbor. The Vols are trying to replace two crucial assistant coaches in a single offseason now that the news is official.
Before moving to Knoxville, Tennessee, to work with head coach Josh Heupel and his staff, Jean-Mary was employed
in Ann Arbor.
On the recruiting road, Jean-Mary had a great rapport with prospects and will be much missed in Tennessee. But
Heupel has consistently recruited experienced assistant coaches in college football, whether it is via hiring a
seasoned coach with expertise or through internal promotions. He has the support of an athletic department that is
completely engaged and prepared to assist with both hiring procedures. The Vols have also kept both coordinators,
which is an advantage they did not enjoy before the 2023 campaign.
