After Jim Mora became head coach at UConn in 2022, Charlton joined the team and was also named associate head coach. After serving as a GA at his alma institution, Boston College, he was the head coach of Maine for two seasons. This was his first staff position, which he held for four years.

Despite a disappointing season due to injury, Mora’s first year at UConn ended with a 6-7 record. Even if Zion Turner, a true freshman, didn’t lead the offense like a juggernaut, the general competency on display was enough to get Husky supporters enthusiastic about the future.

However, after Aaron Turner, Keelan Marion, and Nate Carter transferred the next summer, UConn was unable to enhance or replace its skill-position talent due to a lack of depth on the roster and poor portal recruiting.

The Husky offense faltered in 2023 as the team struggled to win games, even having quarterback Ta’Quan Roberson back along with most of the starters on the line and a loaded running back group.

Mora and his staff will be aiming to add players to the roster when the transfer window opens in April. They need to locate players for their new defensive plan in addition to continuing to search for additional playmaking skill on the opposing side of the ball.
