NFL free agency has begun, and the Pittsburgh Steelers plan to make at least two splash acquisitions.
The Steelers are scheduled to officially sign quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Patrick Queen. It is uncertain
what other additions or trades the team may make.
With Russell Wilson set to join the Pittsburgh Steelers, many are asking if the 35-year-old veteran will be the
frontrunner for the starting quarterback job, or if he and Kenny Pickett will compete during training camp.
Wilson reportedly became a free agent when the Broncos dismissed him late on Wednesday, according to ESPN’s
Adam Schefter on the social media platform X (previously known as Twitter). He is set to join with the Steelers for
the veteran minimum of $1.2 million on a one-year deal.
He is anticipated to wear No. 3 in Pittsburgh once his contract with the organization is finalized.
The Denver Broncos will pay the remaining $39 million on Wilson’s huge $245 million contract, which he signed less
than two years ago after being transferred from Seattle to the Mile High City.
Patrick Queen is making an unusual move, going from purple and black to black and gold. The 24-year-old
linebacker is set to sign a three-year contract with the Steelers.
Queen was selected 28th overall in the 2020 NFL Draft and has been a tackling monster for the Ravens in four
seasons, averaging 113 tackles per season.
