If the San Antonio Spurs are to challenge for a title in the upcoming campaign, they will likely have to build around
star center Victor Wembanyama. To do this, the team will need to sign a top player to play with him and keep adding
players via trades, free agency, and the draft.
Though they won’t likely wow supporters with All-Star skill acquisitions, the Spurs will have the cap space this
summer to add one.
With James Harden and Kawhi Leonard as the other two members of Los Angeles’ Big Three, George is aiming for
his first professional championship this season with a Clippers club that faces some now-or-never title expectations.
As the All-Star break draws to an end, Los Angeles (36-17) is presently ranked third in the Western Conference.
However, George may have the opportunity to test the open market by declining his player option and choosing to
enter free agency after this season.
Bleacher Report listed George and the Spurs as the top three free agent targets for every team in the league as a
result. The other two players named for the Spurs were guard Jrue Holiday of the Boston Celtics and star player
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers.
“George obviously doesn’t bring the playmaking LeBron does, but his outside shooting and perimeter defense would
still make life easier for Wembanyama on both ends,” stated Bleacher Report.
George, 33, is averaging 22.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists this season and doesn’t appear to have aged at all.
But as he enters his fourteenth NBA season, George may be approaching the end of his playing days and probably
won’t want to wait around for a chance to win a title if the Clippers lose this season.
