The Washington Commanders just hired Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn as the team’s next head
coach; now, one of his former players, DaRon Bland, has expressed his thoughts on Bland and the issue.
Bland is a cornerback who just ended his second season in the NFL, leading the league with nine interceptions, five
of which he returned for touchdowns, propelling him to Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honors.
Despite losing Quinn to a division opponent in Washington, Bland praised him to Commander Country in Orlando
during an NFL Pro Bowl practice.
“They’re getting a great coach, a great man, somebody that’s gonna lead them the right way,” Bland went on to say. “I
love him. He doesn’t treat you like a coach. He tried to treat you as if he were a sibling, a player, or just another man
to talk to.
After seeing sports commentators such as Stephen A. Smith discuss Quinn potentially owing his previous team after
a horrible playoff game, it’s encouraging to hear that one of Quinn’s finest players still holds him in high esteem,
which bodes well for the franchise’s future.
If young players like rookie cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr. can build bonds comparable to Quinn and Bland, the
Washington defense and team might see major progress in the near future.
When asked if it would be strange to face Quinn now that the coach he admired had switched to a Dallas opponent
by joining the Commanders, Bland replied, “Oh yeah, it’s gonna be fun, though.”
