Mattison is the Tigers’ No. 28 prospect in MLB Pipeline’s newest rankings after helping Double-A Erie win the

Eastern League title last September. He finished 5-1 with six saves and a 2.41 ERA in 41 games between Erie and

High-A West Michigan, allowing only 40 hits in 59 2/3 innings and striking out 91 batters. He also struck out seven

batters in four shutout innings during the Eastern League playoffs. Mattison was not at Major League camp in

Spring Training, but he was on track to make the Majors this season.

Injuries have hampered Mattison’s progress since the Tigers selected him in the fourth round in 2021 out of Bryant

University. Mattison has been strong when he pitches, averaging 6.3 hits and 13.1 strikeouts per nine innings over 99

1/3 Minor League frames. He will miss the entire 2024 season after having Tommy John surgery.
