This season, the New England Patriots are taking knocks left and right.

After losing their top linebacker (Matthew Judon, torn biceps) and cornerback (Christian Gonzalez, torn shoulder

labrum), the Patriots may now add their most productive receiver to the list of players who have suffered terrible

injuries.

Kendrick Bourne tore his ACL during New England’s 31-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Hard Rock

Stadium. The Pats veteran receiver was injured on the first play of the fourth quarter while attempting to make a

third-and-9 grab at the Pats’ 16-yard line.

Bourne has been the Patriots’ leading receiver this season, with 37 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns. He

grabbed three passes for 36 yards and a touchdown before leaving Sunday’s game. Despite his production, Bourne

has been the subject of trade rumors, due to both his worth and the fact that he is in the third year of his three-year

contract with New England, which he signed in 2021.

The Patriots now confront a daunting assignment in replacing Bourne’s worth both on and off the field. His ability to

win battles in a variety of formations inside the Patriots attack has made him a favorite target of quarterback Mac

Jones. He also tackles the game with a great work ethic and a positive attitude, earning him the affection and respect

of his teammates.

Nonetheless, with nine games remaining on their schedule, the Patriots must swiftly consider their alternatives. For

an organization built on the “next man up” mentality, filling Bourne’s gap will require a collaborative effort.
