Merseyside Police said that emergency services were on the scene all day (Sunday, March 17) on Brimstage Road in
Spital following a “serious road collision” this morning.
A police spokesperson said: “Just before 9.40 a.m., we received a report that a blue Mercedes had crashed with a side
barrier just off Clatterbridge Roundabout.
“Brimstage Road and Brimstage Lane are currently closed, with Merseyside Police, North West Ambulance Service,
and an ambulance air service helicopter on the site.
“The driver of the car was treated by paramedics for significant injuries but died at the site.
“Witness and CCTV investigations are proceeding in the area.
“Motorists and members of the public are advised to avoid the area whilst our officers are at the scene.”
Chief Inspector David Currie said: “Our thoughts go out to the family of the 79-year-old man who tragically died in a
collision on Brimstage Road.
“The driver’s next of kin have been informed and are receiving assistance from expert Family Liaison Officers.
“An investigation is underway in the area, and we would like to invite any drivers who observed the collision or have
dashcam evidence of the incident to come forward. Any footage or information could help determine what
happened.”
