Bobby McMann, a rambunctious forward, has received a two-year contract extension, the Toronto Maple Leafs said Wednesday.
The contract’s average annual value is $1.35 million.
In 40 games with the Maple Leafs this season, McMann, 27, has 10 goals and eight assists for 18 assists, as well as 36 penalty minutes.
McMann, a native of Wainwright, Alta., has 19 points (10 goals, nine assists) in 50 NHL games with the Maple Leafs. He has 71 points in 118 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League (49 goals and 22 assists).
McMann had 92 points in 145 NCAA games at Colgate University (37 goals and 55 assists).
The six-foot-two, 210-pound forward signed with the Maple Leafs as a free agent on April 2, 2020. He’s coming off a two-year, $1.525 million contract paying $762,500 per year.
Earlier today (March 7), the Boston Bruins were considered the frontrunners to sign Joel Edmundson from the Washington Capitals. However, during trading season, things can change in an instant, as has happened yet again.
Edmundson was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick (from the New York Islanders) and a 2025 fifth-round pick (from the Chicago Blackhawks).
This is disappointing news for the Bruins because they not only missed out on Edmundson, but also on their possible first-round opponent. He should be a valuable addition to a Maple Leafs team that requires more defensive depth.
The Bruins will now have to consider alternative possibilities as they try to enhance their team before the deadline. Jakub Chychrun, Matt Dumba, and David Savard are among the remaining defensemen available.
