against Fabian Marozsan.

The world No. 7 admitted he wasn’t “feeling 100% well” on the day of the match, but he didn’t expect his “energy

level” to be that low on court.

Rune suffered a stunning 1-6, 1-6 loss to Marozsan in less than an hour in the second round of the ATP Masters 1000

competition on Sunday, despite receiving a first-round bye as a seed.

Many onlookers were taken aback by the scoreline and quickness of the match, with Rune coming into Miami in

terrific form after reaching the quarterfinals at Indian Wells.

Marozsan, who is presently rated 57th in the world, has already proved that he can pose a threat to top players,

defeating Carlos Alcaraz at the 2023 Italian Open.

The promising 24-year-old Hungarian has also had strong performances at Masters 1000 events, reaching the

quarter-finals of the 2023 Shanghai Masters and the last 16 in Rome last year and Miami earlier this month.

In a post on X, Rune stated that he did not feel his best physically throughout the match, as he looked ahead to the

start of the clay-court season.

“Unfortunately, this marked the end of @MiamiOpen. I knew I wasn’t feeling 100% today, but I didn’t expect my

energy level to be this low,” he added.

“Looking back, I should have pulled out. However, it is usually difficult because I had been practicing and eager to

play for a week. It’s time to go back to Europe. “Thank you for your support, Miami.”

Rune has had positive results since reuniting with coach Patrick Mouratoglou last month. He reached the semi-finals

of the Mexican Open in Acapulco, his first tournament with the Frenchman back in the coaching box, before making

his last eight appearance at Indian Wells.
