Golden Richards, a former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver, died on Friday.
According to accounts, Richards suffered from congestive heart failure.
The Deseret News reported that Richards had suffered with a number of health difficulties in recent years.
His brother, Doug, told the website that Golden collapsed on Christmas Day in 2022 and has had four hip surgeries
since. That, he argued, contributed to his worsening health. Doug Richards also informed the website that his
brother’s mental capacity had deteriorated.

Richards was a Salt Lake City native who played collegiately at Brigham Young before moving to Hawaii as a senior.
The Cowboys took him in the second round, 46th overall, in the 1973 draft.
He spent the 1978 season with Dallas, then moved on to the Chicago Bears and Denver Broncos before retiring in
1980.
Richards did not have the eye-popping figures. He concluded his career with 122 receptions, 2,136 yards, and 17
touchdowns. He was a Cowboys icon, however, since his 29-yard touchdown reception on a throw from fullback
Robert Newhouse proved to be the deciding touchdown in Dallas’ 27-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super
Bowl XII.
