Breaking news: The Steelers are still attempting to sign a seasoned receiver.

The Steelers, who have not traditionally been active in free agency, have changed their tune in Omar Khan’s second

full offseason as general manager. Khan, assistant GM Andy Weidl, and the rest of Pittsburgh’s front office are

working hard to break the franchise’s eight-year playoff drought, following the lead of team president Art Rooney II.

The Steelers made four of the most significant transactions during the first week of free agency. They swapped a

former Pro Bowl receiver for their former starting quarterback. They signed both of the quarterbacks they were

apparently interested in. If that wasn’t enough, Pittsburgh also signed a Pro Bowl linebacker who formerly played for

their archrival.

However, not all of the news in Pittsburgh has been good. The Steelers are still looking to recruit a seasoned receiver

to complement George Pickens. Tyler Boyd is still an option, but money is apparently holding things back.

With free agency still in progress, here’s a rundown of the Steelers’ moves thus far, along with our grades for each.

This was a move that the Steelers had to undertake. While things didn’t go as planned in Denver, Wilson still threw

26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions in 2023. He’s still determined to win and travels to Pittsburgh at a low

cost.

It’s difficult to fault the Steelers for making this decision, but it’s worth noting that they’re replacing Pickett with a

35-year-old who is the fifth-most sacked quarterback in NFL history. Wilson needs to perform well to justify the

Steelers’ decision.

Justin Fields was traded to Pittsburgh from Chicago in return for a 2025 sixth-round pick (which could become a

fourth-round pick depending on playing time).
