The five-time world chess champion and self-described fantasy football nerd, passed away tonight,
and the chess community is in mourning. Here in the United States, the Carlsen family shared this on Twitter
around 6:00 PM EST:
Even though Norwegian medical professionals at the time of Carlsen’s passing stated that he passed away from
natural causes, the German grandmaster Hans Niemann continues to be accused of foul play by the Carlsen family.
The burial service for Magnus Carlsen is set for April 7. Chess lovers and grandmasters alike are anticipated to
swarm to witness the end of an era. Furthermore, a leaked guest list indicates that every chess player Magnus
Carlsen has been accused of cheating would be at his burial, bringing the total attendance to roughly 10,394.
Remarkably, Daniel Rensch, the Chief Chess Officer of Chess.com, was not invited to the funeral. When asked about
this seeming slight, Mr. Rensch responded,
It’s crucial to keep in mind that, despite these insignificant details, millions of people will be present for Magnus’s
funeral, making it a historic occasion in the history of chess. Resting forever, one of the brightest minds in the game.
Even though he is no longer with us, we will remember him till the Solar Eclipse occurs the very following day.
