BIG CONGRATS: Jason Meara Claims Treble at Opening Round of Ulster Open Motocross Championship

Jason Meara made a thunderous statement to kick off the 2025 motocross season as he stormed to a treble victory in the opening round of the Ulster Open Motocross Championship. The event, held at the legendary Desertmartin circuit, drew a passionate crowd and featured the region’s top talent – but it was Meara who stole the show with a dominant performance that sets the tone for the rest of the championship.

The Lisburn rider, competing for the Allmoto Honda team, was in imperious form across all three MX1 motos. From the opening lap of race one to the final flag of race three, Meara was untouchable, combining raw speed, technical precision, and steely focus to claim maximum points on the day.

Flawless in MX1

Meara’s opening race was a masterclass in control. He grabbed the holeshot and immediately pulled a gap on the chasing pack, navigating the technical terrain of Desertmartin with poise and confidence. His closest rival, Glenn McCormick, mounted a mid-race charge but couldn’t close the distance, as Meara cruised to the finish with a comfortable lead.

Race two saw more of the same, though the pressure was dialed up with a fast-starting John Meara – Jason’s brother – making an early challenge. The siblings treated fans to a thrilling opening few laps, with clean but aggressive racing. However, Jason found another gear and stretched away in the latter stages, once again taking the chequered flag ahead of the pack.

The third and final moto was a formality for the Allmoto ace, but Meara didn’t let up. Despite having already secured the overall victory, he pushed hard from the outset, taking another wire-to-wire win and completing a perfect day on the bike.

Post-Race Reactions

Speaking after the race, a visibly pleased Jason Meara reflected on his clean sweep:
“It feels great to start the season like this, especially at Desertmartin. The track was in fantastic shape, and the team had the bike dialled in perfectly. I knew there would be some strong competition, so getting three wins here is a big confidence booster for the rest of the year.”

He also credited the hard work put in during the off-season:
“We’ve done a lot of testing, worked on fitness, and focused on consistency. It’s a long championship, but days like this make all that effort worthwhile.”

Strong Field of Challengers

While Meara’s dominance was the headline, the depth of talent in the field added plenty of excitement throughout the day. Glenn McCormick showed solid form with a trio of podium finishes, keeping himself firmly in the title picture. John Meara also impressed, battling hard in each moto and securing valuable points with consistent top-five finishes.

Young up-and-comer Ben Kennedy made waves in his first season in the premier class, holding his own against more experienced riders and showing glimpses of the potential that has many tipping him as a future champion.

Packed Paddock, Electric Atmosphere

The Desertmartin circuit, often hailed as one of the finest motocross venues in the UK and Ireland, once again delivered a top-tier racing experience. Spectators lined the fence in large numbers, braving cool spring winds to watch some of the best off-road racing the province has to offer. The event was well organized by the Mourne Motorcycle Club, who kept the schedule tight and the action flowing all day long.

There was also plenty of buzz in the paddock, with teams debuting new bikes, gear, and sponsors. The energy was high, as the motocross community came together to kick off the season with a bang.

Looking Ahead

With the first round in the books, the focus now shifts to round two, set to take place at Tandragee in just a few weeks. Meara will carry the red plate into that round, and while his rivals will be eager to halt his momentum, the reigning champion looks to be in unstoppable form.

If his performance at Desertmartin is anything to go by, 2025 could very well be the year Jason Meara further cements his place as one of Ulster motocross’s all-time greats.
